Last day at Enrich for the year!!

I come in peace.  Today at Enrich we did everything, joking.  We celebrated with sausages at lunch!!  At the start of the day we played a wilson game called all or nothing.  After the first round we had 9 and were 3rd, on the second round we got 18 and on the third go my group had 38!!  The whole year of Enrich was awesome!!!!!! ( ;

What in the world/Chess

G'day mate, between morning tea and lunch we did our "must dos and picks" and I did a pick which was called "What in the world?"  I struggled doing some of them because I typed too many words in the google search box.  I now know that the only mammal in New Zealand is a New Zealand native bat.  And now know not to write that much in google search or else The picture or explanation won't come up!!  After this blogging I'm carrying on with my must dos and pick and I will be doing the egg drop, I think? Bye people

Wilson game

At the start of the day the class played a Wilson game outside called the hoop game.  You had to get into one hoop and then you had to jump out of it and go into the next hoop.  My group (Willie, Matt & I) struggled the first couple of times to get into the hoop but then we did!!  We jumped out and went towards the 2nd hoop when Matt just touched it we had to go back to the 1st hoop and on the second try we did it.  We came 1st.  We almost came 3rd.

Dissecting a flower

Before lunch time we did a new week of must dos and picks!!  Hooray!  I did dissecting a flower with Darryn.  First we talked about the part of a flower.  Next we got shown how to dissect a flower and then we did it ourselves.  There were some weird photos and had some weird parts of the flower.   We all had fun doing it.

Wilson game/ Affective domain

At the start of the day we all played a new Wilson game and you had 2 orange,  2 blue and 1 big ball. We were the only ones who had completed in in the week!!  We did it in 6 goes.  Now Affective domain. After chess we did our must dos and picks again and this time I did Affective Domain and we watched a small clip.  It was about what children learn and that they cold be the next generation.  The girl was only 12!!  She was a gifted kid called Adora Svitak

Must dos and picks

Finally, we did our must dos and picks!!  The first one I did was "Where's Henry?" on keynote.  We had to go into our mail and get the attachment to the keynote.  "Where's Henry?" is where is he in the world and there were words that I hadn't even heard before!  There were twelve questions and some were hard and some were quite easy.  I thought that the hardest one was clue 7.  Now after this we are carrying on with it. 

MacGyver challenge

After morning tea we did a Macgyver challenge!!  First we got into a group of three and my group was Matt S, Jacob S and I.
We got :
8 sheets of newspaper
3 meters of string
1 plastic shopping bag
1 pair of scissors 
4 paper clips &
3 meters of celetape
We started to make my idea but Matt and Jacob said "it probably won't work."  So we did Matt's idea with the newspaper and that worked. So then we put the plastic bag under the newspaper and cellotaped it together and then we are hoping to thread the string though the hoops and then we are ready to test it.

Wilson game: Bullseye

After chess time the class went out side and played a Wilson games called Bullseye.  You had four beanbags and you had four hoops and you had to throw them into each hoop but the first game was the first hoop was worth 3 points, second worth 6, third worth 9 and the last was worth 12.  In the first game my team got sixty points and we won and the second game we got 11 and again we won!!!  So our score was 71.  Hope you have a awesome holiday !!!!

Stone carving

This morning we did our passion time and I again did stone carving!!  All  I had to do today was sandpaper and filing.  It only took about 30 min for me to do just about all of it but the only thing I have to do is sandpaper the tip if the carving and Darryn said I was basically done!!  After that it was morning tea and Max was challenging me for like the ten time because he wants to be 4th on the leader board!!  He was starting to get on my nerves.

10 most polluted cities in the world

After morning tea we watched a small clip about the 10 most polluted cities in the world and they were all in the middle east.  The most polluted city was in Iran!!  Some people had to drive with their lights on and some of the air looked like fog but it was all gas!  Some animals ate rubbish, on the land was just all rubbish and some people had to wear masks because of all the gas in the air.  All of us had to do two facts and one wondering, my wondering was is it cold or hot in the polluted cities and my friend (Jacob) wondered how did the city get polluted in the first place.

Teacher Comment

Great to see you out and about doing your bit to stop water pollution Thomas- Every bit helps! Hopefully people will see the fish you have been painting on the drains and think about where the water is going.
I also really like the way your stone carving is turning out, you have certainly put a lot of effort into getting it the way you want it and it looks great! You always make the most of every day at Enrich Thomas. Keep up the good work!

Environment Projects

After morning tea Max and I when round the neighborhood and painted fish on drains.  Max and I went with Max's Mum.  We painted about fifteen fish.  We had lots of fun and had a few laughs!!  For around the police station we painted the colour blue and the rest were red.  Some had very bad rubbish in them and some didn't.  One of the jokes were padlock the car and paint it on the car.  Max and I named all of our fish funny names.: ): )  Max's Mum took a few photos too.  It was very fun!!  Have a great week!!!: ): )

High interest stations

Again we did our high interest stations.  We still did our parachutes.  This time we we could use what materials we wanted.  Last time Max and I did a successful run but this time it was a disaster!!!  Our egg Bill was in a floating jail and was not very comfortable!  Bill had a terrible run.  Max and I used skewers, a cup, a plastic bag, some string and two ballons.  We tried it and... splat!  The egg had gone everywhere, the yolk eventually got out and that was the end of Bill!

Parachuting

For our high interest station I did parachuting with Katie.  Max and I chose denim and started to make our parachute.  We were testing different materials.  Max was my partner.  We started of with nothing and then we got the hang of it. Max was building and I was getting all the materials.  Finally we were testing our parachutes.  Our egg was called billy and he was riding the crusader of death.  Billy did a good run and survived the test!!!

Comic life

For biology we did our Comic life to finish our biology.  We put  our most disgusting photos on our Comic life.  I put on my Comic life, a flies wing, my eye, inside my ear, a flies body and a scab from my leg.  My favourite was the photo from up my ear because it was so disgusting that I laugh my hardest at it!  Heres the Comic life. : ) : )

Biology

Today at Enrich we did our new high interest stations.  This time there was biology, art and chemistry.  This time I picked biology.  We used dinoscopes and a computer.  We took some disgusting photos like our lips, flies and our skin.  It was so fun that people were laughing and laughing!

Art

Hi, its me again.  Again I'm talking about art and how we tried to copy Claud Monet.  This time we put a pink sunset background and we did our river downward instead of upwards.  It is supposed to be a rough drawing.  I did a dark blue and light blue river, dark lillie pads and white flowers.  It looked cool when it was finished and the others looked cool when they were finished to.  I had a fantastic time doing it.  Hope you liked it!`

Technology challenge

Today Eddie, Samantha and I had to design our own launcher to launch a shuttlecock.  We used a cup, ice block sticks, cardboard, rubber bands and a shuttlecock.  We started of with cardboard and a shuttlecock and then we came out with a design of a cup launching the shuttlecock and after that I came up with the design.  We are judging the launchers at 2:00 to see the best one.  I think that its going to be a close one. :) :)

Art Impressionism

Today I did art impressionism of Claude Monet. We had to paint a picture of a setting that had Lily pads in it.  We watched a video clip of how to paint like Claude Monet and his painting of his Lily pads.  We used white, blue, red, brown and yellow.  I did a light and dark blue river, spring Lily pads and white flowers on top.  I picked out of science,art or maths.  I liked how I did my picture of the river.  Here's a picture of mine and Claude Monet.

Self-Reflection

Hi it's me again.  Today I did my self-reflection and it was all about reflecting on what you did this term and what you would like to improve on for next term.  There was I really liked the way I, I wish I had, I still need to work on, This helped me understand, I am most proud of, It will be easy to remember, The tricky part was, Next time I need to, I can explain and this reminded me of.  I really thought that enrich was another school but it's a gifted school.  Thank you Katie, Alana and Darryn for this!! Tannenbaum's model of giftedness

Today at Enrich I learnt about Tannenbaum's model of giftedness.  There was chance,  environment,  general ability, special aptitude and nonintellective requisites.  If you have all five of them that means you are gifted.  I also did canstuction too.

Chess Tournament

Last week, 24 people went to the chess Tournament in Dunedin and one of them was me.  My team came third and my brother's team came second.  I won 4 games, 1 loss and 2 stalemates.  We drove up in a bus and came back down in it.  The games were hard and others were sometime easy.  The first 2 games I won, then a loss, next was a stalemate and again was a win and then a stalemate and a win for the last game.  On the way home we had subway for tea.

Kowhaiwhai patterns

Last week we started to draw our Kowhaiwha patterns or Tapa cloth, and I decided to pick Kowhaiwhai patterns.  I had some trouble thinking of what design I wanted to do but I eventually I thought of something. Today I started to paint my Kowhaiwhai pattern and today I finished it.  I gave it a red inside and gave it a black background.  I think that it looks awesome.  What do you think?

Canstruction!!

Today,we continued on with our Smurf.  I was finished so I had to count how many red,white,blue and black.  Now we're counting up how many of the coloured cans there are and how much it will cost.  We looked at what would stick the cans together.  The best was dots of velcro and the worst was the blu-tack.  We are using the velcro,f ish tins and maybe MDF wood.  We are not allowed to use anything that will stick them permanently together (like hot glue) or will rip the labels off the cans.   

Passion Time

Today for our Passion time I edited my Stone carving.  I started to rasp it and that was basically it for that time.  When I looked at  Jacob's it really look like a the shape of a rook and when I looked a Charlie's it really looked like a like a koru too.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what my carving looks like at the end.  

Stone carving

Today at 9:15 the class did our passion time and I chose stone carving, it was awesome!!  I searched on the computer and looked at a Koru and said to myself "I'm going to do that for my stone carving".  When we went to the work shop there where big blocks of stone.  I started to saw into my Koru and it looks ace.  After we finished, Matt and I had to sweep up the dust on the floor and benches.  

Our Field Trip

4/5/12 Today, Enrich went for a field trip to the Southland museum to have a look at the wearable arts.  On the way there we stopped at a crossing and Darryn caught a cricket in a bush.  When we got to the wearable art clothes they were awesome as .  There where knights,a glow in the dark clothes a bra that was made out an two dead budgies and many more.   

My favourite was the knight and the bra that was made out of two budgies that had died.  My brothers' friend's mum handed out glow in the dark flowers to go into the glow in the dark wearable art clothes , and you had to spot what one it was from and then you had to go back and tell her what one it was from.  Our group made our way back to Enrich and had our lunch. 

Learning wheel!

27/4/12  Today at Enrich I did my learning wheel which is a reflection on what you did last term.  It says I felt, I wondered, I tried,    I learned and I used.


At the start of the day we did an assessment about working in groups and managing yourself.  This is what stage you think you are at, there was beginning, at and above.

We also did the chess leader board and I won both of the games.  The first person I versed was Matthew and he put up a good fight.  The other person was Matt and he did good too!  First I took out all of his good players and then the pawns.  I won with a Queen and two rooks!!


Now I'm sixth on the board.

How are you enjoying our maths talent development so far? I am loving your enthusiasm towards our canstruction project.  You had some fabulous ideas as to what we should build.  The next mission is the hard part...how to go about it? The chess game?

Today I versed Jacob S in a game of chess and it was so funny!!  At the start of the day we went to the chess class with Darryn and he told us good moves to do in a chess game.  After the chess lesson I  challenged Jacob to a game.  He played good at the start but then I pulled my queen out and started taking all of his players and then it was stalemate!! At lunch I challenged Jacob again and that was the funny part.  But this time I won with one rook and a queen and his best player was his bishop and his knight but sone I took all of them out and he was left  with his king and a pawn!!  Now I'm 9th and he's 10th. 

Photos!!!

Hi, it's me again and I'm going to talk about the photos I did with Katie!  My group did photos like birds eye, worms eye and close up views. I took a photo of Alana's car for the close up view and a sign of a number 2!  For the worms eye view I took a photo under Darryn's car but don't tell him at all because he will get angry!!  No he wont, I was just joking with you!!  Then my group went inside and imported them into a I-photo and I turned my photos into a slideshow.

Number Crunch

My second blog post!! This morning I played an awesome game called Number Crunch!  It was easy as at the start but it got harder at the end.  You had to make a number and the hardest one I got up to was one hundred and forty four .  It was a before school pick but what I would call it  is before Enrich pick!!! For Chess I am now ninth in stead of 18th.  I bet a person at Enrich called Dylan.  I bet him by taking every player expect for his King and won with two Queens and a rook. 

My first blog post!!!!

Hi I'm Thomas and this is me blogging for the first time!!!! I was so scared about going to Enrich. Matt and I were using a dinoscope and we were doing some random stuff like taking photos from up our nose and in our ears and you could even see bogeys and gunk, it was disgusting!! We the had to drag the photos onto a comic life and it was quite disgusting! We had a spectacular first day!!!!!!!
